Ploy in Slack

Last updated

Chat with Ploy's Agent from Slack direct messages and threads.

Add the Ploy app to your Slack workspace, link your Ploy account, and send Ploy's Agent a message from Slack. Each conversation is a chat in Ploy, so you can pick it up in the app at any time.

Ploy in Slack is rolling out. If you do not see the Slack page in Account settings, it is not enabled for you yet. Ploy in Slack is not available for organizations that require single sign-on (SSO).

Connect Slack

  1. Open Account settings, then Slack (Ploy in Slack).
  2. Click Add Slack workspace (or Add Ploy to Slack).
  3. Pick the Ploy workspaces to connect.

To change the connected workspaces later, use Edit. To remove one, use Disconnect selected.

The person who adds Ploy to Slack gets a welcome DM.

Link your Ploy account

  1. In Slack, send a direct message to the Ploy app.
  2. The first time, Ploy replies with a link to connect your Ploy account. Open it and sign in.

The link is valid for 10 minutes. If it expires, send another message to get a new link.

Chat with Ploy's Agent

  • In a DM: a new top-level message starts a new chat. A reply in that message's thread continues the same chat.
  • In a channel: mention the Ploy app in a thread to bring Ploy into that thread.

While Ploy's Agent works, Slack shows its status. You can stop the run from Slack.

If you belong to the workspace but have not turned it on for Slack, Ploy shows Enable in Ploy, which opens Account settings, then Slack, with that workspace selected.

When Ploy needs your answer or approval

When Ploy's Agent asks a simple question, you can answer it in Slack. Approvals show Approve and Request changes, and Slack asks you to confirm before it approves. Yes or no questions and short lists of choices also get buttons. For a custom answer, or when Ploy asks several questions at once, select Answer in Ploy to reply in the app. After you answer in Ploy, Slack shows Answered in Ploy.

Publishing from Slack

You can ask Ploy's Agent to publish from Slack. It publishes right away only when the site's Automatic publishing setting allows it, or for a site's first publish. Otherwise it prepares the publish, and you select Publish in Ploy to finish. See Publishing & Deploys for the setting.

Request access from Slack

If someone in your Slack workspace is not a member of your Ploy organization, Slack offers Request access.

  • Owners and admins get a Slack DM about each request. They can approve or decline it from that DM or in Ploy under People, then Access Requests.
  • Each person can have one open request per organization.
  • After a decline, the person waits 7 days before they can ask again.
  • After approval, the person sends their message again and connects the workspace when Ploy asks.

Seat limits

If your organization has no seats left, approving shows the admin an Upgrade plan link and the request stays open. Upgrade, then approve again. See Credits for how plans work.
